Secondary raw materials production from municipal waste
Kouřil, Čeněk ; Gregor, Jiří (referee) ; Kropáč, Jiří (advisor)
The main purpose of the bachelor thesis is to give an overview of the current system of municipal waste management and to demonstrate its techno-economical demands. To solve these objectives, an analysis of the current state in Czech Republic was carried out and a calculation tool was created to evaluate the overall techno-economical balance of the management system at the regional level. The results of the tool showed that it is expensive for municipalities to carry out waste management activities and would not be feasible without complex subsidies. The reader gets a basic overview of the current waste management system in Czech Republic and acquires knowledge of its partial techno-economical costs.

Silný, Marek ; Pluskal, Jaroslav (referee) ; Nevrlý, Vlastimír (advisor)
In waste management, it is crucial to design the collection network appropriately. This paper was aimed at identifying the main factors that influence the motivation of citizens to sort waste and, based on these factors, to design an optimized collection network for the recoverable components of municipal waste. A detailed research was carried out to describe the current legislation in the Czech Republic in the field of waste management, to explain the waste sorting and collection system and to find factors that could influence the motivation to sort based on previous studies. Based on this research, a questionnaire was then designed to assign importance to these factors and two networks were subsequently designed using different distance measurement methods. The paper found that sufficient capacity of a collection point was a more important aspect than the walking distance to that point. For the design of a collection network, it is not appropriate to consider the distance between collection points as the distance by air, but rather the distance by infrastructure.
Effective proposal and operation of sorting line as an element in waste management
Guštara, Dominik ; Kropáč, Jiří (referee) ; Gregor, Jiří (advisor)
The hereby presented master’s thesis deals with municipal solid waste separation. The introductory chapters describe current state of handling of selected recyclables and the technologies of their collection. The following chapter is a description of a waste sorting line technology, since this facility’s function is to upgrade the recyclables to secondary materials. The first step of practical part of this thesis was creation of a technical-economic model of the sorting line designed to process plastic and paper waste, therefore the following chapter is dedicated to its description and presentation. Subsequently, the outputs of the model are evaluated for three settings of its input variables, which represent the three imagined scenarios of the modeled sorting line’s operation. Sensitivity analyses focused on selected input variables of this model were also performed. A separate chapter is dedicated to changes in the model outputs in the case of including the waste transportation prices to the selected scenario. At the end of the thesis, the influence of increased material separation of plastic waste on the lower heating value of residual mixed municipal solid waste is evaluated.
Motivy třídění potravinového odpadu u českých spotřebitelů
Klašková, Anna
Klašková, A. Motives for Sorting Food Waste Among Czech Consumers Thesis. Brno: Mendel University in Brno, 2023. The work focuses on sorting food waste in Brno. Food waste is a significant issue frequently discussed, yet this work explores the idea that food waste can still be utilized. Modern economies harness their waste as renewable resources, transforming them into other products suitable for use. Thanks to modern technologies, waste processing is now possible. Therefore, it is essential to determine what would motivate people to sort their food waste. The first part of the work involves a literature review on related topics, describing the methods used and data processing techniques. In the second practical part, a questionnaire survey is conducted to gather information on what sorting food waste means to people, what would make it easier for them, and other crucial details. Based on the survey data, an interview is conducted to obtain more precise information through open-ended questions and the opportunity for debate. In the next section, the acquired data was utilized to formulate recommendations and proposals that the city of Brno could employ for its residents to collectively and efficiently sort food waste. The proposals are also financially processed, and the calculations are subsequently commented upon to assess whether these investments will be beneficial for the city.
Odpadové hospodářství v obci Čebín
Brychtová, Iva
This diploma thesis deal with the issue of waste management in the municipality of Čebín. The introductory part is dedicated to a literature search in the field of waste management. The aim of the thesis is to comprehensively describe the waste management system in the selected municipality before and after the introduction of the new waste management system. This system is supposed to achieve a better sorting of waste from the total amount of municipal waste, which is currently very low at 14 %. On the basis of own observation since the introduction of the new system for 1 year to evaluate the shortcomings and advantages of the new system, to compare the sorting of the municipality over the last 10 years, to prepare a SWOT analysis on the waste management system and this analysis to proceceed after that on the base of the result evaluate the data from the citizens of the selected municipality by questionnaire survey. The data obtained will also be used to develop a proposal and recommendations for new measures in the waste management of the municipality of Čebín. By the newly introduced system was found to increase the sorting rate of the municipality. However, the municipality's costs for waste management are higher and the municipality will probably have to increase the local charge for the waste management system in the future. This unpopular step can caused to dissatisfaction among citizens and their motivation to sort waste is likely to become less and less.
